Annotation:

A year and a day after Dana Drábová spoke at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of Bratislava, the director of the Nuclear Safety Section of the Slovak Institute of Nuclear Safety, Štěpán Kochánek, continues the dialogue about the nuclear future.

- What opportunities and risks does the new era of small modular reactors bring?

  • - Does the Czech Republic have enough experts to handle it?

More information:

A year and a day after the University of South Bohemia hosted Dana Drábová's lecture, the topic of nuclear energy returns to us — this time from the perspective of the Director of the Nuclear Safety Section of the SÚJB, Štěpán Kochánek. The symbolic continuation of the discussion she opened at the time reminds us that the development of nuclear energy is not only a technical task, but also a generational and value-based task: continuing a responsible dialogue about the future of energy, safety and expertise.

The lecture will focus on:

• the benefits of nuclear energy for society, the state and regions,

• risks and their regulation in the Czech and international context,

• the processes of evaluating and deploying new nuclear facilities,

• the specifics and potential of small modular reactors (SMRs),

• and the question of whether the Czech Republic has enough experts to be able to shape this future.

Come and hear what opportunities and challenges lie ahead of us – and how the South Bohemian Region can respond to them.
