Work & Travel: What Insta Doesn't Tell You

  • Instagram only shows beautiful moments from trips, but working abroad also has its more demanding side. EF JU graduate Anežka Pecháčková, who is fulfilling her dream of traveling around the world (she is flying to New Zealand shortly after the lecture), will openly tell you what it's really like to work abroad, what might surprise you and what you should be prepared for.

More information:

Social networks are full of smiles, beautiful photos from beaches, mountains and exotic cities. Stories about working abroad often seem like a dream come true – you travel, earn money, see the world and every day brings new experiences. However, the reality is often much more varied. What do you usually not see on Instagram – and what is good to know before you decide to go abroad to work?

This is exactly what the meeting with Anežka Pecháčková, a graduate of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana, will be about, which will take place as part of the Adult Education Week. Anežka decided to fulfill her long-standing dream of traveling around the world and did not set out on the trip “just” as a tourist – she collects work experience directly in the countries she passes through. And the best part? Shortly after this lecture, she flies to New Zealand, where she plans to work for several months and get to know the local culture. So it will be a story literally “firsthand” – with fresh impressions, authentic experiences and an honest view without a filter.

Anežka will share with you what working abroad has given and taken away from her – the first steps, cultural differences, administrative pitfalls, surprises and situations that look completely different from how influencers present them. She will reveal what to look out for when looking for work abroad, how to choose a reliable employer, what are the differences in working conditions, communication and expectations, and also what to prepare so that the work experience does not become a source of stress rather than joy.

You will get practical tips – from visas, finances and accommodation to coping with the first days in a new country. You will hear recommendations that you will not find in guidebooks or on social networks.

This meeting is intended for everyone who is considering working, staying longer or taking a sabbatical abroad and wants to avoid common mistakes. If you are looking for a realistic perspective, inspiration and determination to take the first step, do not miss this experience.
