Possibilities of media education in teaching practice.
Annotation:
According to the Framework Curriculum for Secondary Schools, media education includes two basic areas of knowledge: social science ("knowledge of the role of media in society and its history") and media science ("knowledge of the media itself and its behaviour"). The course will offer elementary background for both areas. The initial part of the course will offer a developmental overview of the media and the semantic-communicative potential that each of the emerging media creates, while the core part of the course will offer an explanation of the basic mechanisms of the functioning of the media: representation, performative power, the relationship between word and image, the specifics of narrative in different media or the blurring of the distinction between factuality and fictionality. These mechanisms will be demonstrated through a variety of material, from news to literature and film to comics and popular music.
