Introduction to Biological Anthropology

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to biological anthropology. The foundation of the course is an understanding of the human skeleton and the structure of dental and bone tissues. These lectures are followed by a module in which we will explore areas where archaeology and physical anthropology intersect. We will also focus on paleodemography and bioarcheology, a multidisciplinary science that integrates a range of paleobiological disciplines to reconstruct human life in the past. At the end of the course, we will also touch on the symbolism found in burial rites and rituals, as well as culturally conditioned body modifications.

Each participant will receive an email 3-5 days prior to class with all relevant information.
