History of Romance Countries I

The course provides outline to political, economic and cultural history of France, Italy and Spain from antiguity till the 15th century. With main focus on the identical attributes that can be used to describe the evolution of these regions.

Each participant will receive an email 3-5 days before the start of the course with all important information.

1. Ancient Rome - beginnings and Roman republic.

2. Ancient Rome II: Roman Republic

3. Ancient Rome III: Roman Empire. Roman Emperors

4. Ancient Rome IV: History of Everyday Life, lifestyle, historical monuments.

5. Pre-Roman Gaul. The beginnings of Iberia. Romanization of Hispany and Gaul.

6. Barbar invasion. Ostrogothic Kingdom in Italy, Kingdom of Lombardy, the Merovingian kingdom and the Visigothic Kingdom.

7. Gaul in the times of Carolingian dynasty.

8. The Arabian presence on the Pyrenean peninsula and it ́s significance for Europe.

9. The Pyrenean peninsula in period of Reconquista.

10. The reign of the Capetian dynasty in France and the art of cathedrals.

11. France in Hundred Year's war.

12. Medieval culture in Italy, the Italian comuni and medieval papacy.
