This autumn will be offering two new courses as part of the University of the Third Age programme

Active learning for older adults and the opportunity to meet experts from the academic world, gain new knowledge and develop their interests in a pleasant university atmosphere – this is the main mission and purpose of the University of the Third Age, which has a long tradition at the University of South Bohemia. 

The Faculty of Science has prepared two interesting educational courses for the period from October to December 2026, which will offer participants the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the natural sciences and cultural heritage.

The following courses are on offer:

• Useful Microorganisms – Biotechnological Applications of Fungi in Food and Beverage Production
  How are blue-veined cheeses, beer, wine and fermented foods made? This course will demonstrate the role that fungi and other microorganisms play in their production and the wide range of applications in which they are used. There will be plenty of practical demonstrations and tastings.
  
  
• The Hidden Values of Natural and Cultural Heritage in Historic Gardens and Parks
  What can we learn from a historic park, and why is it important to protect it? This course will focus on the natural and cultural value of gardens and parks. The lectures will be complemented by excursions to the Terezín Valley near Nové Hrady and to the park at Hluboká.
