Workshop Intercultural Communication

Introduction to Intercultural Communication for Educators and PHD students

The workshop will provide plenty of opportunities to practice spoken English through discussion of ideas and experiences. The aim of the workshop is to help prepare University teachers and PhD students to become successful communicators in international situations – whether while travelling or offering courses to international students. A brief introduction to the topic of ICC will be provided and some basic concepts, such as politeness, formality and power distance, will be discussed and used to reflect on our own experiences. The seminar will help participants to develop an awareness of how the language we use and our own attitudes affect our interactions with colleagues and students of diverse backgrounds.
